It was such a pleasure getting to document Alicia and Brett’s intimate ceremony at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. They signed some legal papers under a bright, blue canopy with a clear, plastic wall separating the judge and them – the papers getting passed along via a clipboard attached to the end of a long, wooden stick. When it became time to say their “I do’s,” we found some shade under the tall palms. Alicia and Brett set up their iPad on a tripod so their family and friends from all over the world could zoom in to witness their civil ceremony.
After the ceremony, we explored the beautiful outdoor space of the Santa Barbara Courthouse and snapped some newlywed portraits. Just look at the way Alicia and Brett look at each other – emanated the sweetest newlywed energy!
Then, we headed over to the Simpson House Inn, where Alicia and Brett were staying for the night. It was the cutest boutique hotel tucked away just a few blocks away from the SB Courthouse. There, we utilized the beautiful property to take more portraits (just look at that private balcony!)
Elopements, intimate weddings, minimonies (or any tiny wedding) are so special because they allow you to slow down, focus solely on one another, and savor every moment without having to worry about a crowd to return to or feeling the pressure to entertain. Is 2020 the year of true liberation from old, outdated wedding traditions? Too controversial? 😉
All to say, it was a cloudless summer day, and the most perfect day to celebrate Alicia and Brett’s love (despite the world’s circumstances) in the most beautiful, unconventional way.
